This morning Darren woke with a temperature of 40.8 degrees. He was seen by the lovely Dr Tom from the MacMillan (hereafter known as “mac”) unit. Dr Tom thinks the suspected infection has not responded to the oral antibiotics and is most likely in the liver area. He will probably need IV antibiotics and a scan to investigate whether there is a blockage in that area, as that is the most likely cause of an infection. Then the appropriate course of action will be determined, possibly another stent or drain. We shall see.
Obviously this involves admission to hospital. Those of you who know Darren well will know how he feels about hospital admissions, suffice to say he never wanted to go near another hospital following his stay in Southampton. But, he is facing his fears and here we are, Poole hospital, with probably the most amazing view from the window I’ve ever seen.

He is extremely tired, and feeling very unwell. I have never been prouder of him.
**update Friday evening **
Scans came back, no blockage. The liver is swollen and unhappy but that’s to be expected. He’s on IV fluids and antibiotics because of the high temperature, and should be home tomorrow. Hopefully he’ll recover fully from the recent illness, we’re assuming that’s why he had the temperature, then it’s back to pain management.
He’s quite low (as you may have gathered) as the steroids affect your mood. This week has been awful for him on so many levels. On the plus side, we have seen so many lovely nurses and doctors, all of them trying to make this present time as easy as possible for him.
